A good friend of ours who is a trademark/copyright attorney in Washington D.C. sent us an interesting link. Apparently she gets regular news feeds from different sources that relate to patent/copyright/trademark law. Well Thomas net news published the Top 7 Coolest (Strangest) of 2010, and Recompute made the list. Here is the excerpt from the article:

Cardboard Computer
The Greener Gadgets Design Competition in New York featured a lot of environmentally friendly devices, but none aroused as much interest as Brenden Macaluso’s Recompute PC. The computer hosts 2GB of RAM, a 2.5-inch hard drive, four USB ports and a micro ATX motherboard. Oh, and the body is made of cardboard. Macaluso says cardboard was an ideal material for the Recompute, because it’s recyclable and has a higher fire and ignition point than plastic. The whole thing is combined with non-toxic adhesive, according to Tom’s Hardware.

While the tech specs are a little bit old, we appreciate the recognition. Read the full article here.

As of this week Recompute has officially gone into production! Currently we are setting up our assembly facility and we should see the first batch of parts in a few weeks, which means the first finished machines should follow in the coming month.

The original Recompute (left) & one of the workhorse Beta Test models (right)

For those of you who are on the waiting list, your orders will be honored first and then machines will be built per order. However due to the overwhelming interest in Recompute, it has been decided to offer multiple models and options for all the different kinds of users out there.

Check out the anticipated models and versions of Recompute on the updated specs page

We will keep you posted on the manufacturing progress, as there is still a good bit of work to do. Hopefully some video and pictures too. Also a new and improved site should be up as well. It has been a lot of work to get here, so thanks to everyone for all of your patience and support!
