General technical questions about Recompute are here. For more specific information or help please visit the specs page, community & support pages or the Wiki
Q1: How does It perform, can I run my software on it?
A: Recompute is modern full functioning computer running Windows 7 (except LNX models), please see our specs page for more information.
Q2: What are the performance specs?
A: Please see our specs page for model listings, options and MSRP.
Q3: Is there a CD/DVD/Blue Ray drive in the machine?
A: There are no optical drives in Recompute. The reason is that the disk drives are slowly being phased out as we are using them less and less with the advent of internet and USB storage devices. When a optical drive is needed we plug in a compact USB powered drive. The beauty of this is that when we need a drive (or any accessory) we just plug it in, and when we are done we can unplug it, just like electrical outlets in your home. You can have one drive that services many computers, which lives an independent life from the rest of the machine(s). You can order our recommended USB powered CD/DVD-RW drive though the Accessories section of the web store.
Q4: How many hard drives can I fit in it?
A: The machine will fit a 2.5” SATA drive, plus you can add an mini IDE solid state flash drive as well. If you wanted all the main drive can upgraded to solid state.
Q5: Can I put my own old hardware in the machine? What kind of hardware fits in the case?
A: Sure, that is the reason for the Recompute Kit! The case requires a MATX motherboard with processor, heat sink and memory, as well as 2.5” SATA hard drive. The case will also fit many low profile video cards in the PCIE slot. The kit includes the balance of parts needed to finish the project. Please see our specs page for more details.
Q6: Can I get it without an OS?
A: Yes, choose the “No Operating System” option when adding a machine to your cart. Note: we cannot offer additional help/support if you choose no OS
