OK so you want to know more about this sustainable computer made of cardboard and you wanted to check it out for yourself. Well here it is… Recompute is a sustainable desktop computer. So what is the big deal about this thing? Recompute is the result of extensive research in sustainability and product design. The research lead to what is called the L.A.P.S. (Life Cycle Amortization for Product Sustainability) method, which utilizes design as the primary factor in product sustainability. L.A.P.S is a holistic perspective of design thinking and its affects how products are manufactured, used, and disposed of.
Many people have reacted strongly to the fact Recompute is made of cardboard and thus assumed that it is sustainable/green because it is recyclable. While true, this is far from the whole picture. It isn’t complicated, just really detailed. Let’s put it this way; cardboard as a material is nothing more than a pizza topping. Whether mushrooms, pepperoni or pineapple, a pizza is still a pizza regardless of what the topping might be.
